Concept

The Wrong Brothers is a concept proposal for a comedy animated circular kind of series based on the idea of failure and trying and trying again. The main idea is based on the alteration and story twist of the Wright Brother’s story.

The Story

Ostin and Wakaley Wrong, the young sons of Trevor Wrong, live and work with their father in Bowland Forest in England, in the family’s bicycle retailing shop. One day, after reading the news on the newspaper about the successful contraptions of the American Wright Brothers, Ostin and Wakaley come up with the idea to start constructing machines that will give the non-flying birds like themselves the opportunity to fly into the sky. Unfortunately, their last name is not given to them for no reason, as they fail repeatedly and in hilarious ways, to construct their machines and achieve their goals. Even though their real motive is actually serious, they are not discouraged by failure and make fun of the situation without taking everything too seriously. The two brothers stand up and try again even though everyone else knows they will fail.

The Illustrated Concepts

The Wrong Brothers series pilot script, animation bible and art concepts were created by Elpida Panourgia in 2016, as part of her master project in the Writing for Animation Program at the Vancouver Animation School, under the supervision of the great animation screenwriter and storyteller Jack Enyart. For the concept proposal of the Wrong Brothers animated series, apart from the pilot script and the animation bible, concept art was created for the main characters. In the Wrong Brothers series all the characters are non-flying birds of different kinds with human personalities, traits, mannerisms and speaking. Creating non-flying characters justifies their wish and motivation to create machines that can actually fly. The Wrong Brothers’ story takes place in the Steampunk Era in an imaginary England and all the characters are dressed with 19th century clothing, according to the dress code of the community –bird guild that they belong to. The steampunk artistic style and design of the series adds great value to the wonderful comical stories of the characters.
